About Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
The condition where eGFR that indicates kidney function is 60 or below is known as chronic kidney disease (CKD).
This condition is progressive, and excess waste materials, fluids, and potassium are not excreted, gradually accumulating in the body. When chronic kidney disease progresses, the amount of urine gradually decreases, ultimately leading to kidney failure, where no urine is produced.
Acute Kidney Failure
Acute kidney failure is a condition where kidney failure occurs suddenly over several hours or several days, making it difficult to sustain life. With appropriate treatment, there may be the possibility of recovering kidney function.
Chronic Kidney Failure
Chronic kidney failure refers to a condition where kidney failure occurs gradually over a long period of time from several years to several decades or more, gradually progressing. Once chronic kidney failure occurs, unlike acute kidney failure, it is impossible to recover kidney function, and ultimately the introduction of dialysis or a kidney transplant is required.
Causes of Chronic Kidney Failure
Currently, approximately half of the causes of cases that require dialysis are diabetic nephropathy. Other causes of kidney failure are hypertension and obesity, lifestyle-related diseases such as smoking, and kidney diseases such as chronic nephritis and nephrotic syndrome. Kidney failure progresses with virtually no noticeable symptoms, and symptoms first appear when kidney function has dropped to 15% of the normal kidney function.
For this reason, early detection is a must.
At the Department of Nephrology, Nagoya Kyoritsu Hospital, our goal is early detection and early treatment, and drug therapy and dietary therapy is conducted in accordance with symptoms.
We welcome consultations from individuals who received comments on physical checkups or who were told by their regular clinic that their laboratory values were poor.
